Reid Pounces On Perceived GOP Split

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) released the following statement on Tuesday after several Republicans announced that they would oppose a three-week funding extension that will be voted on soon in the House:

“Some Tea Party extremists seem to think ‘compromise’ is a dirty word, and have said that they would rather shut down the government than work with Democrats to find a common-sense, bipartisan solution. The extreme budget proposal Republicans are clinging to was rejected by the American people and resoundingly defeated in the Senate because it would have eliminated 700,000 jobs.

“Now it is time for them to move on. The question is, will reasonable Republicans break from Tea Party extremists and join Democrats to find a responsible, bipartisan solution free of extraneous riders that cuts spending while protecting American jobs – or will they sacrifice American jobs to appease the their base?”
