President Chides GOP On Budget Talks
President Obama took a swipe at congressional Republicans today over their refusal to budge on spending cuts.
Noting that a GOP measure to cut spending this year by $61 billion failed in the Senate earlier this week, Obama implored Republicans to back down from their demands and meet Democrats halfway.
“They are not going to get 100 percent of what they want,” he said. Obama said that a counter offer by Senate Democrats to shave $6.5 billion off the budget was “the right thing to do.”
The President admitted that Congress is likely going to have to pass another short-term funding measure to give both sides more time to reach agreement on what he called, “serious but prudent” cuts.
