DC Congresswoman Urges Lawmakers To Ditch The Bottles

In the spirit of budget cutting, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) is urging Congress to drink plain ol’ tap water instead of bottled in an effort, she says, to save the environment as well as taxpayer dollars. 

Norton maintains that tap water is as safe, if not more so, than bottled water, due to the fact that it is regularly tested for contaminants. She said that loopholes allow most bottled water to bypass Food and Drug Administration testing.

“Any day now, [companies] will be selling bottled air to the House of Representatives,” Norton joked at a press conference Tuesday.
