Kelly Expected To Command Endeavor Shuttle Mission
Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:02AMAstronaut Mark Kelly, husband to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), is expected to announce that he will command the flight of space shuttle Endeavor, a source close to the situation said.
After a Tucson shooting that left his wife fighting for her life, Kelly questioned the status of his mission to command the flight. Subsequently, NASA named a backup commander should Kelly have decided not to proceed with the mission.
NASA indicated earlier that a press conference would be held on Friday to announce the official commander of the STS-134 shuttle mission, Kelly isscheduled to attend.
