Reid Urges Boehner To Consider Budget Deadline Extension

By Rachel Christiansen

Top Senate Democrats have proposed a temporary “stop-gap” measure to prevent a government shutdown when federal funding expires on March 4.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has introduced a 30 day extension to the deadline to keep spending at current levels until an agreement can be made on both sides of the aisle.

Reid told reporters Tuesday that although Democrats are vying more time, that does not mean they are opposed to cutting spending.

“It’s not a question of cuts, but what cuts we’re going to make and when we’re going to make them,” Reid said.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called upon Speaker of the House John Boehner to stop being “pushed around” by the freshman GOP and to have “an adult conversation” about the budget.
