Member Of Obama's Debt Commssion Blasts "Draconian" GOP Spending Cuts

Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) said Thursday that a series of proposals by Republicans aimed at trimming the budget would have devastating impacts on working minorities.

Becerra, the Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and a member of President Obama’s fiscal commission, called the proposals misguided.

“You can’t balance the budget in the long term by undercutting America’s working families today. But that’s what these reckless, short term, short sighted cuts would do—and hitting Latino, African American and Asian American communities the hardest.”

Becerra is one of several Democrats that have been outspoken in criticizing the spending cuts, saying they would harm segments of the population that require federal assistance.
