Clinton: Global Internet Standards Are The Next Step

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the web world together for global internet standards, according to the Wall Street Journal. 

In front of an audience at George Washington University on Tuesday, Clinton said harnessing the power of the internet has been essential in spreading the news of recent political protests in the Middle East. 

However, Clinton also outlined the need for global legal platforms to ensure the internet continues to be a tool of unity, not destruction. 

“Finding the proper measure for the Internet is critical.” Clinton said. “The qualities that make the Internet a force for unprecedented progress -its openness, its level effect, its reach and speed- also enable wrongdoing on an unprecedented scale.”
