Second Bill Stalled In The House
The House failed to pass legislation Wednesday that would ask the U.N. to return funds loaned to the international entity by the U.S., the the second failed vote in the lower chamber this week.
The final vote came in at 259 – 169, shy of the 2/3 needed under procedural rules set by the House leadership.
Two Republicans opposed the measure, which was cast as an important budget cutting measure. Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) argued that the move would strip funds currently provided for security of the UN building.
The legislation would have recouped $179 million.
On Tuesday, an extension of key PATRIOT Act provisions failed to make it through the lower chamber as well.
