Senate Report Questions Iraq Transition Strategy

A new report released by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday shows that a host of issues regarding Iraq’s security situation must be resolved.

Entitled, “Iraq: The Transition From A Military Mission To A Civilian-Led Effort,” the report was put together by Democratic members of the committee’s staff. It concludes that Iraq might not be ready for U.S. military forces to completely leave, and that a “creative and sustainable funding mechanism” will be required to pay for the State Department’s continued role in Iraq.
