New Oklahoma AG Will Challenge Healthcare Law
The state of Oklahoma will file suit against President Obama’s healthcare reform law, according to the office of newly-elected Republican Attorney General Scott Pruitt.
In a statement, Pruitt said the Obama administration had overstepped its legal authority in signing the reform package into law.
“There is great clarity for me on the necessary and urgent need to exercise my responsibility to defend Oklahoma’s Constitution against a federal government and president that have gone too far in their overreach of power and authority.”
“President Obama’s health care plan is bad for our economy, bad for our health and bad for our states…It’s also an unconstitutional Washington power-grab that seeks to force our citizens to buy certain products,” added Republican Governor-elect Mary Fallin.
Pruitt joins the Attorneys General of over a dozen other states who have filed challenges to the law. Specifically, the suits focus on a controversial provision within the law that requires individuals to purchase health insurance starting in 2014.
