Senator Lugar Calls For Less Dependance On Fossil Fuels
By Rachel Christiansen
Citing national security concerns, Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) Monday called for the U.S. to decrease its dependency on fossil fuels.
“If terrorists succeed in disrupting our oil lifeline, it will not matter that before disaster struck the American public and its leaders only began to gain an understanding of our vulnerability,” Lugar said during a speech at a clean energy conference.
Lugar urged the Obama administration to form an actionable plan that shifts the focus from climate change to giving Americans viable options and incentives to “use less.”
Lugar outlined goals from his own Practical Energy Plan he introduced last year that includes reducing the need for oil by 40 percent by 2030.
