GOP Should Ignore Veto Threat, Says House Republican

By Rachel Whitt

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) reaffirmed support for Republican efforts to repeal the healthcare reform law Monday.

The conservative lawmaker told Talk Radio News Service that a potential veto by President Obama should not stop the GOP-controlled House from attempting to wipe the law off the books.

“Even if it’s clear that Mr. Obama will ultimately veto a bill,” Franks said, “If it should succeed and get to his desk, it’s still important because a successful vote in the House might build momentum for the ultimate repeal of that legislation.”

Franks argued that the healthcare law would hurt the nation’s fragile economy, and would eventually put the federal government in complete charge of the healthcare system.

“It is important that we repeal [it], because it would socialize our medicine,” he said. “And I believe many lives would be lost and it will be devastating to our country’s freedom and economy.”
