Boehner And GOP Demand Vote On Tax Cut Extension

By AJ Swartwood

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) called the actions of the Democratic majority a betrayal if they fail to vote on an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts before leaving Congress.

“They’re turning their back on the American people,” he said.

Boehner expressed outrage Wednesday morning with other House Republican leaders at the Democratic leadership’s refusal to propose an up or down vote on the tax cut extension, which they say has bi-partisan support in both chambers of Congress.

“I believe there is a bi-partisan majority in both the House and Senate that want to extend all of the current tax rates,” said Boehner.

As Congress prepares to adjourn and hit the campaign trail this week, GOP leaders are calling upon Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and President Obama to allow “a fair and open process,” ultimately bring the notion to the floor for a vote.
