Bill Clinton Backs U.S. World Cup Bid

Former President Bill Clinton is putting his fundraising clout behind efforts to bring the World Cup to the U.S. in 2022.

“We are a rich melting pot of cultures and ethnicities,” Clinton said in an email urging his foundation’s supporters to donate to the bid committee. “Every qualifying nation will feel as though they’re playing a home game on our pitch.”

Clinton, who was recently named the Honorary Chair of the USA Bid Committee, shared headlines with the World Cup this summer after joining the U.S. team’s locker room celebration.
