Poll: Majority Of Americans Want 3rd Party
As dissatisfaction with the federal government continues to mount, it appears that a majority of Americans believe that the solution may lie within a third political party.
According to a new Gallup poll, 55 percent of Americans say that the Democratic and Republican parties are inadequate enough to require an alternative, as opposed to 38 percent who say the two-party system is acceptable.
Divided among parties, a slim majority of Democrats cite the need for a third party while Republicans appear to be split evenly. The major clamor for a third party comes from those who identify themselves as independents, among whom 68 percent say a new party is necessary.
The same poll also shows that of the two parties, the majority of Americans believe Republicans will have a better chance of keeping the country safe than Democrats, by a 49 to 38 percent margin, as well as “keeping the country prosperous,” wherein the GOP holds a 48 to 49 percent advantage.
The poll was conducted among 1,017 adults between September 8th and 11th. It was released Friday.
