FBI Arrests Man Accused Of Plotting Capitol, Pentagon Attacks
The FBI has arrested a 26 year old Massachusetts man for allegedly plotting to attack the U.S. Capitol building and the Pentagon with remote controlled aircraft strapped with C4 explosives.
According to the FBI affidavit, Rezwan Ferdaus, an Ashland resident with a bachelor’s degree in physics, was allegedly planning the attacks as a form of jihad with the goal of “terrorizing the United States, decapitating its ‘military center,’ and killing as many [non-believers] as possible.”
“[The Pentagon is] the target to eliminate and terrify all enemies of Allah,” Ferdaus is said to have told the FBI. “This is what we have to do. This is the righteous way.”
The FBI also states that Ferdaus had acquired one remote controlled craft and 25 pounds of explosives, in addition to 6 AK-47s and grenades which he allegedly planned to use as people streamed out of the two buildings following the attack.
Ferdaus also reportedly supplied undercover FBI agents with improvised explosive devices disguised as cell phones, which he was lead to believe were used to kill American soldiers overseas.
