Poll: Dissatisfaction With Government Hits New High
It appears that vast numbers of Americans are losing faith in nearly every facet of the U.S. government.
According to a new Gallup poll, 81 percent of Americans say they are dissatisfied with how the country is being governed, the highest the polling agency has ever reported.
Only 45 percent of respondents said that they have a great deal or fair amount of confidence in elected officials or those running for office, a new low. 53 percent replied that they have little to no confidence. Specifically, 82 percent said that they are unhappy with Congress’ performance and 69 percent said that they lacked confidence in the executive branch.
In addition, 57 percent reported that they doubt the federal government is capable of resolving domestic issues.
Americans appear to be evenly split over whether or not the government poses a danger to individuals’’ rights. 49 percent said that the government poses an immediate threat and 50 percent said that it does not.
The poll, released Monday, was conducted September 8th through 11th among 1,017 adults.
