Poll: Fear Of Terrorism Low In Days Before 9/11 Anniversary
As the upcoming 9/11 anniversary approaches, only 36 percent of Americans fear that they or a family member could be a victim of terrorism, according to a new Gallup poll.
The survey also found that 38 percent of Americans believe a terror attack is likely or somewhat likely to occur inside the U.S. within the next several weeks, a sharp decline from this May, where the numbers spiked to 62 percent amid fears of a retaliatory attack over the death of terror leader Osama bin Laden.
Fear of an immanent terror attack has not been so low since November, 2009, where it charted at 39 percent.
In addition, only 18 percent of respondents told Gallup that they had little confidence in U.S. officials abilities to protect against attacks, whereas 22 percent reported they have a “great deal” of confidence and 53 percent said they held a “fair amount.”
The poll was conducted among 1,0008 adults between August 11th and the 14th.
