OPINION: Tea Party Trashing

Strange things are happening as the American Left tries to scapegoat the Tea Party for our country’s economic problems.

The Tea Party opposes runaway spending—so it’s downright pathetic to claim they caused the downgrade of our credit rating.

But just as strange was one liberal group’s reaction when Newsweek magazine deliberately chose a hideous portrait of Michele Bachmann to put on their cover. Jumping to defend Bachmann and condemn Newsweek as sexist was—you got this? The National Organization of Women. As the group’s president said, they oppose Bachmann’s agenda and they want her to lose. But this time NOW stood up for a conservative woman who was being trashed by a major magazine.

So here’s something unusual: In this case, I say well done to the National Organization of Women. I disagree with them about most everything, but this time they did something right.

From The Heritage Foundation, I’m Ernest Istook.
