New IMF Director Promises Different Managing Style
Christie Lagarde, the new head of the International Monetary Fund, told reporters Wednesday that her managing style will be different from Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the previous Managing Director.
“I’m more inclusive, more team minded in terms of substantive issues,” Lagarde said during her first press conference since taking the top spot at the agency.
Lagarde said that the approach will allow her to appreciate the depth and substance of the agency at large, noting that she comes to the job open minded and with the willingness to solicit advice.
“Not all conductors know how to play the piano, harp, violin, and cello, so I’ll just try to be a good conductor,” Lagarde said.
Lagarde took the reins at the IMF Tuesday. She is the first female to serve as Managing Director.
Former Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn left amid allegations that he had sexually assaulted a hotel maid in New York. According to a variety of media reports, prosecutors may drop the charges after questions began to emerge over his accuser’s credibility.
