OPINION: Bad Economic News
From The Heritage Foundation, I’m Ernest Istook.
Last month, in our nation of over 300-million people, only 18,000 new jobs were created. The numbers were pitiful, and so was the reaction at the top.
President Obama offered only more of the big-government policies that are failing us while they undercut our future through unrestrained borrowing and spending.
The message of hope and change has been downsized to denial and defeatism, as we’re asked to become resigned to a lesser America. Obama audaciously says he should get credit that things aren’t even worse, while shifting blame for his role in letting them get so bad.
Meantime, his chosen bureaucrats keep piling on more government red tape and regulations that add to job-killing uncertainty.
It’s time for government to back off, quit trying to control everything, reduce spending, and let the miracles of freedom and free enterprise restore opportunity and growth. It can be done.
