Bachmann May Flourish In Palin’s Absence
If former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin declines a White House run, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) could join Mitt Romney as a GOP frontrunner, Public Policy Polling reports.
According to the agency, Bachmann narrowly leads Mitt Romney in Oregon and Montana if respondents aren’t given Palin as an option.
“Obviously this is just two states but these numbers speak to the possibility for a two way race between Romney and Bachmann if Palin stays out of the field,” Public Policy Polling said in a statement on their website. ”They’re 11 points clear of anyone else in Montana and 18 points ahead of anyone else in Oregon.”
Bachmann leads Romney in Oregon 29 percent to 28 percent and 25 to 23 percent in Montana.
Bachmann officially kicked off her campaign in Waterloo, Iowa Monday morning. Palin has yet to announce whether or not she will run, but she has spurred speculation by going on a bus tour across the East Coast.
Both Palin and Bachmann are considered to be likely favorites among members of the conservative tea party movement.
