Geithner Wants IMF Head Out

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said that Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the International Monetary Fund is “obviously not in a position to run the IMF.”

Strauss-Kahn, a French citizen, has been accused of raping a hotel maid in a posh New York Hotel. He was apprehended before leaving the country and is currently being held by U.S. authorities on Rikers Island.

Geithner, who was speaking to the Harvard Club of New York, said that John Lipsky, who is currently serving as Acting Managing Director was a “very capable” with “a lot of experience” and called for formal board recognition.

Despite the scandal, Geithner emphasized that the IMF still plays an important global role.

“There’s a lot going on in the world,” Geithner said. “You want the IMF to have the capacity to be helpful.”

The Secretary would not comment on the Strauss-Kahn’s criminal charges.
