BP Gave Boehner $5,000 Last Month
The political action committee for oil giant BP donated $5,000 to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) last month, according to a report from the Center for Responsive Politics.
In addition, other leading Republican lawmakers received money from the company, including House Minority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) who received $5,000, House Energy Chair Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), who also received $5,000 and House Ways and Means Chair Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), who was given $1,000.
The National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee also received $5,000.
The sole Democratic lawmaker included in BP’s donations was Rep. Pete Visclosky (D-Ind.), who is the highest ranking Democrat on the House Subcommittee on Energy and Water. He received $3,000.
News of the donations coincides with the one year anniversary of the massive oil spill in the Gulf Coat, wherein a BP oil rig exploded and leaked millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf over a period of months. Likely sensitive to the crisis, the company limited its fundraising in the months surrounding the incident.
