U.S. Airlifts 640 Egyptians From Tunisia

Over the weekend, the U.S. flew 640 Egyptian nationals who fled Libya and became stranded in Tunisia back to their home country.

The airlift, which came at the request of the Egyptian government, was conducted by two C1-30 aircrafts conducting four flights each on Saturday and Sunday.

The flights were part of a U.S. humanitarian operation entitled “Odyssey Dawn.” The U.S. preceded the airlift by delivering 6 pallets of humanitarian supplies, including water, blankets and plastic sheeting, to help Libyan refugees in Tunisia.

According to Pentagon spokesperson Col. David Lapan, additional humanitarian assistance may be provided if the need arises.
