Cantor: Dems Continue To Play Games With Budget

By Rachel Christiansen

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Tuesday that Democrats are “playing a game” by accusing Republicans of not being able to compromise for a budget plan by April 8th to avoid a government shutdown.

Refuting Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer’s (D-Md.) comments regarding the $51 billion in cuts the Dems have ceded for compromise, Cantor said those numbers are “far-fetched” from the truth.

“Chuck Schumer exposed their tactic, he’s basically instructing his members to deem any spending cut as unreasonable,” Cantor said.

Cantor added that it’s “time to get serious” about a long-term spending bill because “we’ve got bigger things to deal with.”

When asked about the dissent between conservative freshman leadership and the rest of the Republican party, Cantor said they are just “frustrated they are unable to do what they came here to do, and that is to cut spending.”

“If we can’t even come together on that notion, and all [Democrats] are going to do is play games, I think that explains why we are where we are today,” Cantor said.
