Assange Extradited To Sweden
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will face questioning on sex crimes allegations in Sweden after a British judge approved his extradition.
Assange’s attorneys immediately said they would appeal the decision, a process that could stall the trial for months.
“We are still hopeful that the matter can be resolved in this country,” Assange’s attorney Mark Stephens said. “We remain optimistic of our chances on appeal.”
Assange fears that extradition to Sweden will make it easier for him to be extradited once more to the United States on potential charges involving the site Wikileaks. Although no charges have been filed by the U.S., investigation of the website’s activity is ongoing.
Assange will remain detained by Swedish authorities because the country does not have a bail system.
