Chris Christie Hits Obama On Supercommittee Failure
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie took on President Barack Obama Monday for taking a hands off approach to the now defunct Congressional supercommittee.
“What the hell are we paying you for?” Christie remarked during a press conference held to announce a New Jersey initiative to help prisoners re-enter society.
Christie added that the President’s acceptance of the super committee’s failure was “astonishing,” noting that if he wanted to act as an impartial observer he should have stayed in the Senate.
The supercommittee was tasked with finding $1.2 trillion in savings by November 23rd. As a consequence of failing to reach a consensus, the U.S. will perform a series of automatic cuts in domestic and military spending. The White House has indicated that efforts to overturn the legislation that established the alternative will face resistance from President Obama.
Christie was at one time rumored to be mulling a 2012 run himself, but ultimately declined. He has since endorsed and hit the campaign trail for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
