OPINION: Who Blocks Obama?
President Obama is barnstorming the country, claiming that Republicans are holding back our economy by not passing what he calls his jobs bill, which has a half-trillion-dollar price tag.
Neither house of Congress has taken it up. But the Republican leader in the U.S. Senate at least made the effort; he tried to bring Obama’s proposal to a vote on the Senate floor. Guess who blocked the attempt? It was Sen. Harry Reid, the Democrat leader of the Senate.
So the President claims the GOP is stopping his bill, but it was actually the top Democrat in Congress who refused to permit a vote.
Obama’s plan is more big spending—similar to the first failed stimulus. If Obama wants to get serious about helping the economy, a better approach would be to stop hindering and bashing the businesses that actually create jobs.
