OPINION: Occupying Wall Street

America’s mass media have rushed to cover the demonstrators on Wall Street, giving them a lot kinder treatment than the much-larger Tea Party gatherings ever received.

The protestors say they’re objecting to financial greed. One of their demands is the forgiveness of all debts—government debt, business loans, home mortgages, credit cards, student loans—any and all debt. They say it’s because lenders are greedy. But isn’t it also greedy to keep your money and break your word and refuse to pay back what you borrowed? Why don’t they consider that another form of greed?

Plus they want free college, free health care, higher pay for every worker, you name it. There’s a lot more on their list of demands, including trillions in new spending. They want a lot. But of course, these protestors aren’t being greedy. It’s just everyone else.

From The Heritage Foundation, I’m Ernest Istook.
