New Yorkers Firmly Support Occupy Wall Street
A significant majority of New York City voters back the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University.
The survey found that 67 percent of voters “agree with the views of the Wall Street protesters” and 87 percent replied that they were fine with the protests.
72 percent of voters stated that if demonstrators obey the law, then they can stay indefinitely, as opposed to 24 percent who say they should be faced with a time limit.
Although the poll found that 61 percent of respondents said that they approve of the the way New York City police are doing their job, police treatment of protesters is more closely divided over how the police have handled the Wall Street protesters. 46 percent say that they approve while 45 percent say that they disapprove.
The poll was conducted between October 12th through the 16th and released Tuesday. It surveyed 1,068 of the city’s registered voters.
The demonstrations, which began on Wall Street but spread to cities across the country, entered their second month this week.
