Holder Sent Subpoena

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the Chair of the House Oversight Committee, has sent a subpoena to Attorney General Eric Holder as part of the committee’s investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal.

The subpoena requires Holder and a slate of other high ranking officials within the Justice Department to submit all communications pertaining to the operation, including those with the White House, as well as notes from meetings involving the program.

“Top Justice Department officials, including Attorney General Holder, know more about Operation Fast and Furious than they have publicly acknowledged,” Issa said in a statement Wednesday. “The documents this subpoena demands will provide answers to questions that Justice officials have tried to avoid since this investigation began eight months ago.”

Fast and Furious was an ATF operation that allowed criminals to purchase weapons illegally and transport them to Mexico in order to prompt a future crackdown. Several of the weapons were used for violent crimes, including the murder of a Border Agent.

Holder told reporters Tuesday that the Justice Department would comply with the Committee’s subpoenas.
