Obama Puts Pressure On The Senate As Jobs Vote Looms
The upcoming vote on the White House’s jobs plan represents a “moment of truth” for the Senate, President Barack Obama said Tuesday.
“Today is the day when every American will find out where their Senator stands on the jobs bill,” Obama said during a speech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “This is gut check time. Any Senator who votes no should have to look you in the eye and tell you what exactly they’re opposed to.”
Shortly after the President concluded his remarks, the Obama 2012 campaign sent an email to supporters urging them to call Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office and voicing their support for the bill.
The Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on the jobs package Tuesday night. There are growing doubts over whether those in the upper chamber have the support needed to move forward with the legislation. If less than 60 Senators get behind the White House plan, there has been ongoing discussions about breaking the bill up and then voting on specific provisions individually.
