Pence Will Sit Out White House Race
Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) has announced that he will not run for President in 2012, instead hinting that he will seek the govenorship of his state.
“We have been especially humbled by the confidence and support of those who believe we should pursue the presidency,” Pence said in a letter to supporters published in the Indianapolis Star. “But after much deliberation and prayer, we believe our calling is closer to home.”
Rumors that Pence would seek the Presidency went into overdrive after the Congressman left his position as chair of the House GOP Conference shortly after the 2010 midterm elections.
“Now that we have restored a Republican majority to the House of Representatives and I have fulfilled my commitment to the Republican Conference, my family and I have begun to look to the future,” Pence said in his resignation statement.
