Obama To Call For Additional Spending In State Of The Union Address
President Barack Obama is expected to call for additional infrastructure and education spending in his State of the Union address Tuesday night.
“We’re going to have to out innovate, we’re going to have to outbuild, we’re going to have to out educate other countries,” Obama said in a video sent out to supporters over the weekend.
The President also stressed that job creation and responsible debt reduction will be key themes in his annual speech to a joint session of Congress.
On Sunday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) signaled that Republicans will likely give the President’s request for additional funds an icy response.
“We’ve got a huge spending problem here,” McConnell said during an appearance on the show Fox News Sunday. “We’ll take a look at his recommendations, we always do, but this is not a time to be looking at pumping up government spending in very many areas.”
