State Of The Union Scheduled For January 25th
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) officially invited President Barack Obama Tuesday to deliver his State of the Union address, requesting January 25th as the date for the annual speech to a joint session of Congress.
“As many great challenges lie ahead for our nation, we welcome an opportunity to hear your proposals,” Boehner’s invitation read.
The Speaker noted that the recent shooting in Tucson, Arizona highlights the need for the address.
“Recent events have reminded us of the imperfect nature of our representative democracy, but also how much we cherish the ideal that our government exists to serve the people,” Boehner said. “Even in the wake of tragedy, we must never waver from our obligation to carry out their will and provide solutions to keep moving our nation forward.”
