Republicans Confident They’ll Fare Well In November

Republicans appear more confident that they will take back Congress this November after a week that included disheartening economic data and a well-received speech from House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio.)

“The American people are looking for a new approach that will bring certainty,” Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), the chair of the House Republican Conference, said during a conference call with reporters Thursday.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who joined Pence on the call, predicted that more seats now considered safe will suddenly come into play as President Obama’s approval ratings decline.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) echoed the certainty of his lower-chamber colleagues during his victory speech following Tuesday evening’s primary.

“I’m convinced that Republicans will win in November and we will regain the majorities in both the Senate and the House,” McCain said.

The Senator also touched on what could follow a GOP-friendly election.

“We will stop the out of control spending and tax increases and repeal and replace Obamacare,” McCain said. He added that Republicans would also focus on securing U.S. borders and bringing U.S. troops home from Afghanistan with “honor and victory.”
