Primary Brief
There are some closely watched primary races happening Tuesday in Arizona, Florida and Alaska.
John McCain has fought all year against Tea Party challenger J.D. Hayworth, and is likely to clench the nomination this evening. However, this victory comes at a price tag of $21 million.
Also trying to secure the party-nod in Arizona is Ben Quayle, the son of former Vice President Dan Quayle. The younger Quayle, running for Congress in Arizona’s 3rd District, has picked up some significant media attention over allegations that he wrote for a raunchy website and a provocative campaign ad in which he calls Obama the worst president in history.
In Florida, Rep. Kendrick Meek is slated to be the Democratic party’s Senate nominee. He is expected to edge out Jeff Greene, a Florida billionaire who has reportedly spent four times more than Meek. This could be bad news for the Independent frontrunner Governor Charlie Crist, who has so far benefited in from a divided Democratic party in polls against Tea Party favorite Marco Rubio.
Alaska’s Republican Senate primary will pitch sitting Senator Lisa Murkowski against Joe Miller, a candidate backed by former Governor Sarah Palin. Murkowski is expected to win the nomination, but has faced a tough battle.
