Pentagon Notes

From today’s press gaggle with Pentagon spokesperson Bryan Whitman.

WikiLeaks

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange suggested over the weekend that the rape charges filed against him could have emerged from the Pentagon as a way prevent Assange from publishing additional classified U.S. documents on his website.

The Pentagon flatly denies any involvement.

“That allegation is simply ridiculous,” Pentagon spokesperson Bryan Whitman told reporters Monday.

Pakistan Update

U.S. helicopters have rescued 6,490 Pakistanis since August 5th.

The U.S. has delivered a total of 1.4 million pounds of relief supplies.

Today, four C-130 aircrafts are operating in the region.

Iraq

Between 52,000-53,000 soldiers remain in the country. The Pentagon expects to have troop levels down to 50,000 by the end of the month as planned.
