Bagram Air Base Attacked
Approximately 30 insurgents armed with rockets, grenades and suicide vests attacked the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan Wednesday, killing one civilian and wounding nine servicemen.
Security on the NATO base, which is U.S. operated and the largest installation within the country, killed over 10 insurgents. The attackers ultimately failed to penetrate the base.
The Taliban has boasted in recent weeks that they will be staging a spring offensive. On Tuesday, a car bomb was detonated in the Afghan capital of Kabul, killing 18 people, including 5 U.S. soldiers and a Canadian officer.
Pentagon Spokesperson Bryan Whitman described Wednesday’s assault as a “coordinated attack” but said it is too early to conclude what the two attacks might mean for the insurgency.
