Pentagon Notes
From Monday’s press gaggle with Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman.
Afghan Plane Crash
The U.S. is participating through the International Security Assistance Force to help locate an Afghan commercial plane that went missing in Northern Afghanistan.
The plane contained roughly 40 passengers. According to Whitman, it is too soon to speculate on potential causes. However, it has been reported that the weather in the region has been rough.
Iran To Continue Enrichment Program
Although Iran has recently agreed to ship low-enriched uranium to Turkey, a spokesman from the Iranian government has said the country will continue to enrich their own uranium.
Whitman says that this does not change U.S. strategy and that the pressure/sanctions route will continue. The White House is expected to issue a statement shortly.
Gulf Coast Oil Spill
The military has successfully delivered needed equipment to help confront the continuing disaster off the gulf coast.
Flyovers are continuing as well.
National Guardsmen are stationed in the Gulf Coast states.
Private Spy Ring
The New York Times reported Sunday that a previously revealed intelligence operation in Afghanistan and Pakistan orchestrated by contractors is still active.
Whitman contends that a review of the operation is still ongoing and noted it was “too many miles away from to address adequately.” Noted DoD policy is to obviously comply with guidelines .
