Unemployment Rose To 9.8 Percent In November
The unemployment rate was at 9.8 percent in November, according to data released Friday by the Labor Department.
The new numbers show a slight .2 percent uptick from the previous month.
Job growth also slowed significantly in November, going down from 172,000 new jobs in October to 39,000.
Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner Keith Hall noted in a written statement that temporary help and healthcare jobs saw increases while retail jobs saw numbers decrease. Manufacturing jobs had changed little during the month, according to Hall.
“The unemployment rate edged up to 9.8 percent in November, and payroll employment was essentially unchanged,” he said.
The new rate reflects a 7 month high, with 15.1 million Americans unemployed.
Hall added that many of the 15.1 million unemployed stopped seeking jobs because they believed no jobs were available for them.
