UPDATE (10:55am) — The Senate voted 82-14 on Tuesday morning to end debate on a continuing resolution to keep the government running until March 4. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will likely schedule a final vote on the measure for later in the day, so that the bill can be sent back to the House for approval before the current CR expires at the end of the day…

WASHINGTON — The Senate will vote today on a continuing resolution intended to fund the government until a budget is drafted in the new Congress, a necessary step to prevent the government from running out of funding by midnight tonight.

The resolution was brought forward by Reid as an alternative to the omnibus spending bill, which Republicans blasted for containing billions in earmarks.

Once passed, the resolution will be sent to the House for approval.

The resolution will extend current funding until March 4th

Following the vote on the continuing resolution, the Senate will hold a cloture vote on the ratification of the START Treaty between the U.S. and Russia. The final vote is expected to be held on Wednesday.
