Geithner, Lew Head To The Hill In Search Of Tax Cuts Compromise

Two top members of the White House’s economic team are heading to the Hill Wednesday to meet with members of both parties in an attempt to form a compromise on the future of the Bush-era tax cuts.

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and OMB Director Jack Lew are slated to meet with Republicans Rep. David Camp (R-Mich.) and Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) as well as Democrats Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.).

The meeting takes place one day after President Obama sat down with Republican leaders at the White House. The President described Tuesday’s meeting as “productive,” but warned that it will take time to arrive at a solution.

The tax cuts have been a divisive issue in the closing days of the lame duck session, with Republicans rallying heavily for an across the board extension and Democrats vying for a permanent extension solely among households earning less than $250,000 a year.
