McConnell: GOP Will Make Multiple Attempts To Repeal Health Care Overhaul
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters Thursday that Republicans will continuously pursue the full repeal of Democrats’ health care reform legislation.
“On health care, we can and should propose and vote on straight repeal, repeatedly,” McConnell said. ““We can’t expect the president to sign it, so we’ll also have to work in the House on denying funds for implementation and in the Senate on votes against its most egregious provisions.”
The Kentucky Senator said the only way to accomplish Republicans’ policy goals “is to put someone in the White House who won’t veto any of these things.”
In the aftermath of Tuesday’s elections, Republicans have been vocal about pursuing issues included in their “Pledge To America.” McConnell acknowledged that the GOP victory can be directly credited to the country’s disapproval of the Obama administration and Democratic Congress saying “voters didn’t suddenly fall in love with Republicans; they fell out of love with Democrats.”
“This isn’t a reason for Republicans to gloat; rather, it’s a time for both parties to realize who’s really in charge — the people,” McConnell said. “Tuesday was a referendum, not a choice.”
