8 Republicans Vote Against Earmark Ban
After 8 Republicans sided with Democrats, a proposed two year moratorium on earmarks failed in the Senate Tuesday by a 39-56 vote.
The ban failed to find support from Republican Senators James Inhofe (Okla.), Bob Bennet (Utah), Susan Collins (Maine) Thad Cochran (Miss.), Richard Shelby (Ala.), Lisa Murkowsi (Alaska), George Voinovich (Ohio) and Dick Lugar (Ind.).
Democratic Senators Evan Bayh (Ind.), Michael Bennet (Colo.), Russ Feingold (Wis.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Bill Nelson (Fla.), Mark Udall (Colo.) and Mark Warner (Va.) voted in favor of the moratorium.
Despite being unable to pass an official ban on the practice, Republicans in both the House and Senate have voted within their party to oppose specified spending.
