Waters Wants Trial Now
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), who is the focus of an Ethics committee investigation into whether she improperly steered TARP funds to a bank in which her husband owned shares, held a press conference Monday morning to demand that her trial take place before the end of the year.
The committee announced last week that Waters’ hearing would be postponed indefinitely in light of new evidence pertaining to her case. The Califonia Democrat, who serves as a key member on the House Financial Services Committee, called that announcement proof that the committee’s lawyers had little on her. Waters has vehemently denied any wrongdoing in the affair.
Standing outside the committee room Monday morning, Waters bemoaned to reporters the decision to delay her trial.
“I am here because I am disappointed that the committee has chosen not to hold my hearing,” she said. “Since it has been canceled, I, like you am looking for answers.”
