Report: Congressional Black Caucus May Not Back Pelosi
According to CNN, the Congressional Black Caucus may only support James Clyburn’s (D-S.C.) Minority Whip bid, and not current Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s run for Minority Leader.
Following a meeting of the 42 member caucus Monday evening, what seemed like a compromise that would put Clyburn in a newly created third leadership position apparently dissipated.
The Chair of the CBC, Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), reportedly said that the caucus will withhold support until the details on the third leadership position are determined.
Last week the CBC endorsed Clyburn for Minority Whip over current Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).
“[Clyburn] has been an extremely effective consensus-building member of the Democratic Leadership who has brought together all corners of our caucus behind a unified agenda,” Lee said in a statement. “With our country at a crossroads, it is vitally important that we have a leadership team in place that recognizes and reflects the strength and diversity of both the Democratic Caucus and our great nation.”
