John, Cindy McCain At Odds Over DADT

Sen. John McCain and his wife Cindy McCain are seemingly split over the future of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, after the latter appeared to advocate the controversial policy’s repeal in a recently released video from TheTrevorProject.org.

Shown alongside a slate of celebrities denouncing the bullying facing gay teens, Cindy McCain remarks ““Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future … they can’t serve our country openly.”

“Our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens,” the Senator’s wife says several seconds later.

John McCain, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, helped block legislation that would have ultimately led to the repeal. In a hearing February, McCain described the policy as “imperfect but effective.”
