Pentagon Believes WikiLeaks Has Additional Documents
The Defense Department believes that the whistleblower website WikiLeaks could still release additional classified documents.
Pentagon spokesperson Col. Dave Lapan told reporters Tuesday morning that the Department’s belief is based on “independent knowledge” that goes beyond the public statements made by the site’s personnel.
Lapan’s assertion follows the release of 400,000 documents related to the Iraq war last Friday.
Lapan added that the Pentagon is still unsure what is included in the site’s “insurance” document, an encrypted file on the site that many believe WikiLeaks will publish if their web presence is threatened.
Although hundreds of names and other pieces of information have been redacted from the files in the site’s latest release, Lapan insists that WikiLeaks has not contacted the Pentagon for help in determining what data could be particularly sensitive.
